YF3 x Asobiba Volunteer Week 4

Fourth and FINAL week of volunteering in Japan!

I've come to Kessennuma again to volunteer this time for Asobiba (Playpark). This week is different from the other weeks because will be spending most of my time playing with kids who have been affected by the 3.11 disaster. Asobiba is a group aiming to secure areas for kids to play freely in disaster stricken areas around Japan. My mission this week is to play with kids in this hand made playground so that these kids get a chance to just be kids again. The kids around these areas are facing many difficulties and this playground serves as their safe haven. Asobiba believes that 'playing' is how a child unleashes his or her emotions whether it be good or bad and it is our job to create a safe environment.

Unfortunately I am not allowed to post pictures of the kids due to privacy issues but hopefully I can get some videos of the site that we are working in!!

This is the "Play Car". This van is used to bring toys and other play materials to other parts of Kessennuma for kids who live too far away from the Asobiba playpark. Today the Play Car went to an area called Karakuwa. The Play Leaders built a temporary pool for the kids there!
